WHILE YOU WERE GONE
The Virginian-Pilot, 2011

This project website was the first I built for The Virginian-Pilot outside of the standard wrapper. As part of a recurring weekly series, photojournalist Amanda Lucier documented the lives of military families coping with a deployed loved one. For the site, I used JavaScript and jQuery in ways I haven’t before for The Pilot.

THE VIEW THROUGH THE LENS
The Virginian-Pilot, 2011

Working with The Pilot’s photo staff is always a treat. Good art makes design a no-brainer. For this video interactive, I got to use 12 of the best photos of the year. This project is currently unavailable because of a video migration project at The Pilot.

Video by Brian Clark.

THANKS TO OUR 5,000 FANS
The Virginian-Pilot, 2010

We were thrilled when we hit 5,000 fans on Facebook. To thank them for their time and participation, we made this stop motion video as a thank you. During the 8 hours it took to produce, we took more than 600 photographs. Graphics, script and editing were done by me.

Produced with Andrew Tran.

BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY AT 75: A ROAD OUT OF TIME
The Virginian-Pilot, 2010

This interactive was the online component of a four-part series on the Blue Ridge Parkway that explored the road’s history, culture and future. Working with the lovely writings of Diane Tennant and beautiful photographs from Amanda Lucier made the project one of my most rewarding at the Pilot so far. This project is currently unavailable because of a video migration project at The Pilot.

VIDEO ESSAY: ENVISIONING THE FUTURE OF DOWNTOWN NORFOLK
The Virginian-Pilot, 2009

This video essay was based off an article that ran in The Virginian-Pilot about the slow-moving construction process in Downtown Norfolk. Using left-over images from print and the voice of the talented author, Mike Gruss, the story takes on a nice tone in video form.

HOMEARAMA INTERACTIVES
The Virginian-Pilot, 2009-2010

As the producer of the Home and Garden channel for The Pilot, I wanted to do something unique for a popular new home tour that goes on each year. This video interactive was among the most visited on our site in 2009. I also did a smaller version for the spring 2010 Homearama. These projects are currently unavailable because of a video migration project at The Pilot.

Produced with Miranda Mulligan and Patrick Wilson.
